Certified to the Highest Execution Class.

CE Execution Class 3 under EN 1090 is not a general fabrication standard – it is the level required for structural steelwork where failure carries the highest consequence, and it is the level demanded by power transmission and distribution programmes.

Certification to EXC3 requires documented factory production control, welding coordination by a qualified welding engineer, controlled welding procedures, and full traceability from the mill certificate of the raw material through to the finished welded component. IPW operates to this standard across its full fabrication scope.

Qualified Welders.

All welding at IPW is carried out by welders qualified to EN ISO 9606-1 – the international standard for the qualification testing of welders in fusion welding. Welder qualification records are maintained on file and are available on request.

The qualification covers the welding processes used in production: MIG (135), TIG (141), and MMA (111).

Controlled Welding Procedures.

Every weld type produced at IPW is governed by a Welding Procedure Specification (WPS), qualified by a Welding Procedure Qualification Record (WPQR). This means each weld is made to a defined, tested and documented procedure – not to individual judgement.

WPS and WPQR documentation is held for all welding processes and positions used in production, and forms part of the quality documentation pack issued with an order.

Inspection and Monitoring.

Welding is monitored through production, not checked only at the end. All welds receive visual inspection, with further examination carried out where required by the execution class and the project specification.

Weld inspection records are maintained against the order and issued as part of the documentation pack, giving the project a documented record traceable to the qualified welder and the qualified procedure.
